Roundtable on Social Protection Cover for Nigerians – PensionNigeria

Roundtable on Social Protection Cover for Nigerians

The National Pension Commission (PenCom) recently participated in a one-day Roundtable on Social Protection Cover, organized by the Nigeria Labor Congress (NLC) held in Abuja.

Prominent personalities who graced the event were Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mallam M.K. Ahmad, the pioneer DG of PenCom who delivered a paper presentation titled: ‘Expanding Social Protection Cover and Ensuring Effective Implementation in Nigeria’ as well as the Director General of PenCom: Hajiya Aisha Dahir-Umar and the Executive Commissioners of PenCom amongst others.

Speaking at the event, President of the NLC, Comrade Ayuba Wabba stated that the Roundtable was organized as a fallout of the recent 2nd National Peace and Security Summit organized by the NLC. From the discussions at the summit, it was established that the crisis of physical insecurity in Nigeria has very strong ties with human insecurity especially as marked by the dearth of social protection cover for the poor and vulnerable in our society.

In order to strengthen regulatory governance of the social security sector in the country, experts and stakeholders in the fields of Social Insurance, Pension Administration, Mortgage Banking, Health Insurance, Industrial Training and other aspects of social protection were in attendance to highlight key points on how workers could access Social Protection Cover.
