PTAD Pays ₦3.9 Billion Pension Arrears to 91,146 Retirees

The Federal Government of Nigeria has cleared ₦3.9 billion in outstanding pension arrears for 91,146 retirees under the Defined Benefit Scheme (DBS). The Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD) announced the successful disbursement as part of its ongoing efforts to improve pension administration and enhance the welfare of senior citizens.

According to PTAD, the arrears represent payments connected to the newly approved ₦32,000 pension increment, alongside additional percentage increases designed to strengthen income support for pensioners across various sectors.

Breakdown of Payment:

  • N1.9 billion to 59,865 pensioners under Parastatals Pension Department
  • N830 million to 12,976 Pensioners under Civil Service Pension Department
  • N620 million to 9,689 Pensioners under Police Pension Department
  • N551 million to 8,616 Pensioners under Customs, Immigration, and Prisons Pension Department

PTAD’s Executive Secretary, Tolulope Odunaiya, stated that the disbursement reflects the Federal Government’s renewed commitment to addressing pension backlogs and ensuring that retirees receive their rightful entitlements promptly. She emphasized that the payment aligns with the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritizes dignity, transparency, and improved welfare for older citizens.

PTAD assured the public that it remains focused on maintaining a credible, transparent, and efficient pension management system. The agency reaffirmed its commitment to continuous verification of eligible pensioners and timely disbursement of all approved benefits.

The clearance of the ₦3.9 billion arrears provides immediate relief for affected retirees and further strengthens confidence in Nigeria’s ongoing pension reforms. It also signals the government’s determination to fully honour its obligations to those who have served the nation.
