Hannah Usman Joins VG Pensions as Brand Ambassador to Drive Informal Sector Pension Inclusion
In a bold move to expand its footprint in Nigeria’s informal sector, VG Pensions has announced the appointment of popular media personality and lifestyle influencer, Ms. Hannah Usman, as its new Brand Ambassador. She joins veteran Nollywood actor and producer Femi Adebayo, who has represented the brand for over five years.
The appointment is a strategic move to boost awareness and enrolment in VG Pensions’ Personal Pension Plan (PPP), a retirement savings product tailored to self-employed individuals, artisans, traders, entrepreneurs, and professionals in the informal sector. Hannah Usman’s influence will focus primarily on the Northern Nigeria audience, where she enjoys strong recognition and engagement.
The rebranding of the Micro Pension Plan to Personal Pension Plan was announced in May 2025 during the Pension Industry Leadership Retreat organized by the National Pension Commission (PenCom). This move aims to make pension products more inclusive and relatable to millions of Nigerians working outside the formal sector.
At the recent 2025 Annual Conference of the Nigerian Association of Insurance and Pension Editors held in Lagos, PenCom Director-General Mrs. Omolola Oloworaran emphasized that the new name, simplified onboarding, and technology-enabled enrolment were designed to demystify pension planning and increase adoption across the informal economy. She also reiterated the critical role of pension funds in national development, particularly in infrastructure and housing investment.
Since its inception, the PPP has shown significant growth — climbing from ₦168.63 million in total contributions in June 2021 to ₦1.16 billion and over 185,000 participants as of March 31, 2025.
Welcoming Hannah Usman, Mr. Tochukwu Esejindu, Head of Corporate Development and Strategy at VG Pensions, stated: “Her appointment will strengthen the brand’s visibility in the North and contribute significantly to the actualization of the overall objective of the Personal Pension Plan, which is ensuring the financial security of informal sector workers at retirement.”
Echoing the sentiment, Mrs. Peninnah Omisade, Head of the Personal Pension Plan at VG Pensions, said: “With her strong influence and reach in Northern Nigeria, Hannah will help demystify pensions and drive wider adoption of the newly rebranded PPP. Our goal is to make pension planning more personal and accessible to informal sector workers.”
