Federal Civil Servant to get Gratuity under CPS

The National Pension Commission (PenCom) and the Head of Service have disclosed that they are working together to introduce a Gratuity Scheme for federal civil servants under the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS).
For the first time in the history of the Contributory Pension Scheme, retirees of treasury-funded MDAs may soon enjoy gratuity in addition to pensions!
The Gratuity will be given to the Civil servants when they retire in addition to accessing Lumpsum and monthly pension or annuity via their Pension Fund Administrators (PFAs).
This development followed a high-level meeting held on June 13, 2025, in Abuja, where the Director General of PenCom, Ms. Omolola Oloworaran, paid a courtesy visit to the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (HCSF), Mrs. Didi Esther Walson-Jack.
The proposed Gratuity Scheme will offer civil servants 100% of their last gross annual pay as a gratuity upon retirement. This is a major push to reward those who’ve served Nigeria diligently.
PenCom also noted that more Good News are coming.
PenCom also disclosed that from August 2025, PenCom will launch a comprehensive online enrolment exercise to: Verify accrued pension rights; establish liabilities and enable government to possibly clear all pension arrears at once.
