Customs Releases N7.61bn Pension Benefits for 4,237 Retirees

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has disbursed N7.61 billion in pension benefits to 4,237 retired officers, marking another step in its efforts to improve the welfare of former personnel.

The funds have been transferred to nine Pension Fund Administrators (PFAs), which are responsible for crediting the beneficiaries’ Retirement Savings Accounts under Nigeria’s Contributory Pension Scheme.

The announcement was made by the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, during a dialogue with retired Customs officers. He said the payment reflects the Service’s commitment to ensuring that retirees receive their benefits promptly and are treated with dignity after years of service.

According to Adeniyi, the release of the funds is part of the Nigeria Customs Service’s broader strategy to strengthen confidence in its pension administration and provide financial security for retired personnel.

The Comptroller-General also reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to maintaining regular engagement with retirees, noting that their welfare remains a priority even after leaving active service.

The latest disbursement is expected to provide financial relief to thousands of former Customs officers, many of whom depend on their retirement savings to meet daily living expenses.

The Nigeria Customs Service has in recent years intensified reforms aimed at improving staff welfare, transparency and institutional efficiency, with timely pension payments forming a key component of those efforts.

As the funds begin reaching beneficiaries through the designated Pension Fund Administrators, the payment is expected to ease financial pressures on retirees while reinforcing confidence in the administration of retirement benefits within the Service.
