PTAD implements N32,000 Pension Increase & disburses N5.7 Billion as Pension Arrears
The Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD) has announced the disbursement of Five Billion, Six Hundred Ninety-Four Million, Nine Hundred Sixty-Seven Thousand Naira (N5,694,967,000.00) as pension arrears to One Hundred, Thirty-Seven Thousand, Eight Hundred, Ninety-Seven (137,897) Pensioners under the Defined Benefit Scheme (DBS).
This payment reflects the implementation of the ₦32,000 pension increase approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on July 29, 2024. According to the Executive Secretary, Tolulope Odunaiya, PTAD began payment of the accrued arrears in December 2024.
Details of the disbursement are as follows:
• 9,678 Pensioners under the Police Pension Department (PPD) received Three (3) months arrears.
• 8,619 Pensioners from the Customs, Immigration, and Prisons Pension Department (CIPPD) received Two (2) months arrears.
• 58,462 Pensioners under the Civil Service Pension Department (CSPD) were paid One (1) month arrears, while 12,062 Pensioners in the same department received Two (2) months arrears.
• 49,076 Pensioners from the Parastatals Pension Department (PaPD) received One (1) month arrears, excluding those in the University Sector, who were paid in December 2024.
However, pensioners from certain defunct agencies—including PHCN, NITEL/MTEL, NICON Insurance, Nigeria Reinsurance, and the New Nigeria Shipping Line (NNSL) were excluded, as their specialized salary structures are not within the scope of the approved increase.
Odunaiya reaffirmed PTAD’s unwavering commitment to settling all outstanding arrears as funds become available. She expressed sincere appreciation to the Pensioners for their patience and understanding during the delay in payments, noting that their continued trust and confidence in PTAD is a testament to the Directorate’s dedication to their welfare.
