Edo State Government Distributes Cheques to another Batch of Pensioners Next of Kins

Governor Obaseki of Edo State has distributed cheques worth N11.8 million to four families whose relatives died in active service in Edo State. The cheques were presented to the beneficiaries at the Government House, Benin City.

The governor also used the opportunity to appreciate labour unions in the state for supporting the government in implementing the Contributory Pension Scheme in the State and expressed readiness to extend the scheme to local government.

The Governor said,
“I urge the union to continue to support the government as we prepare to ensure that the contributory pension scheme is implemented across the entire workforce in Edo State, particularly at the local government level.
“We want to step up our care for them to allow Edo State workers have access to better medical care. As a government, we have decided to have a contributory medical insurance scheme for all citizens of Edo State,”

Edo State Head of Service (HOS), Mr Ehiozuwa disclosed that the cheques presented are in compliance with the provisions of Pension Reform Act of 2014 and Edo State Pension Law 2010 on Group Life Insurance policy for all employees, which mandates that the employer must have a group life insurance for its employees which must be three times the last annual salary of the employee.

Ehiozuwa also disclosed that with this payment, the total amount distributed to deceased pensioners’ Next of Kins through Group life insurance payments since the commencement of the scheme in 2017 is N50.29 million.
