The Director-General (DG), Lagos State Pension Commission (LASPEC), Mr. Babalola Obilana, has assured pensioners of the Lagos State Government that they will soon start benefiting from the State Health Insurance Scheme.
The Director-General also disclosed that the state government has begun working on the modalities that will enable the retirees to take advantage of the scheme before the end of the year.
Speaking on Thursday at the 84th Bond Presentation Ceremony held at the NECA House Auditorium, Alausa, Obilana said that not less than 358 retirees’ Retirement Savings Account (RSA) was credited with a total of one billion, six million, six hundred and twenty-three thousand, eight hundred and sixty-four naira, five kobo (N1,006,623,864.05) in fulfillment of the government’s agenda to provide succor to the pensioners.
Obilana assured the retirees that their welfare remains a top priority of the Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu’s administration.
“This is why the government has identified with the retirees with the aim of serving them better”, Obilana said.
While appreciating the retirees for painstakingly adhering to the instructions and rules that representatives of the commission are doling out, Obilana stated that it has made it easy for the agency to meticulously do its work, thereby reducing delay in the preparation and payment of entitlements.
The DG restated the commitment of the government to the pensioner’s well-being, stating that the government is leaving no stones unturned in ensuring that they are promptly paid.
He said: “Mr. Governor is aware of the fact that retirees experience a delay in the payment of their entitlements. This is exactly why he is releasing adequate funds to address the situation.”
Obilana appreciated the support of the Commissioner, Ministry of Establishments, Training and Pensions, Pension Fund Administrators and insurance companies at ensuring that retirees have unrestricted access to their pension benefits.
Speaking at the event, Olufemi Ogunlaye, a retiree thanked the governor and the staff of LASPEC for always taking into cognizance the retirees and their welfare.
Another retiree, Mrs. Akinwunmi Olayemi Adijat, expressed her profound gratitude to the Lagos State Government and LASPEC for maintaining an open door policy.
